Arbroath Vics v Forfar West End
West End travelled to Arbroath to face the local Vics in a game they had to win to progress through to the semi-final of the league cup. After a 20 minute delay due to the referee turning up late, West End had the better of the early exchanges and took the lead in 6 min through a Lawson penalty, awarded after Johnston had been upended in the box. Vics equalised 5 mins later when Pearson took advantage of poor defending at the edge of the penalty area to slip the ball home. The rest of the half saw play rage from end to end but West End had the chance to regain the lead on 40 mins but Lawson saw his penalty attempt saved by Reid in the home goal. West End started the second half strongly and strikes from Sime and Stewart on 50 and 53 mins gave the visitors some breathing space and when Black cracked in a 40 yard free kick 15 mins from time the tie seemed to all over. However a 30 yard shot from Norrie and then a penalty from Jones saw the Vics back into the game and pressing for the equaliser that would see them through to the semi final. A great save by Vanderdeyl 2 mins from time saw West End preserve there lead and in time added on at the end Johnston shot home from an acute angle to finally finish of the scoring and allow West End to progress to the semi final on Wednesday when they will take on Montrose Roselea at Strathmore park.
